
Intrigued by the creatures, and with additional knowledge supplied by Spike Witwicky, Wheeljack and Ratchet created three "Dinobots", one of which being Grimlock. The discovery of fossilized dinosaur bones in a cavern in their volcano base set the Earthbound Autobots on the track to creating the Dinobots.

However he is still an Autobot and is willing to protect the Earth as much as the Autobots. One of Grimlock's most distinguishing features is his famous speech impediment, which leads him to shorten sentences and refer to himself constantly as "Me Grimlock", never "I". Although, this superiority complex is later amended through friendships developed with the human Spike Witwicky and the diminutive Autobot Wheelie. Grimlock can be merciless and contemptuous of those he considers beneath him, such as human beings, and at times.
